Blaze Nation: really just a grab bag

I’ve taken some time to relax now. Maybe our season isn’t over.

The thing is, I just got done watch the Clippers lose by WAY more than the Blazer just did. This would be an excellent opportunity to make a ringing endorsement for the apparent depth and dominance of the Lakers. I should clearly point out that they may well be as good and probably better than advertised. But instead of going there, I’m just going to marvel again at Baron Davis.

How could you not love watching this guy?

I was at Applebee’s last night, so I didn’t see his theft of KB24 live, but PeteJN had me quick on the text, and now Continue reading

Expanding something…

Rebellion.

Roger Goodell thinks that reducing the number of pre-Season games, and extending the regular season would benefit the fans. At least that’s what he wants you to believe. Look, I hope no one is buying that. Star players just barely make it through 16 regular season games. So in order for a 17 or 18 game regular season to work there would need to be an additional BYE week or more games at the end of the season for the star players to sit out of.

What’s ‘Ole Roger really got in mind? More all-time records can fall with 2 more regular season games.

But seriously though, for the guy who is making his name as the iron fist, the new regime demanding more character of his players, I’m slightly put off by this. More record chases equal more dollars at the expense of his players’ health, and I don’t mind that, but I just want him to come out and say it instead of pretending it’s some noble quest for quality.

America’s New Team

I think writing a title like is kind of lame, but I’m wishfully (or wistfully) thinking right now, so there it is.

Considering the state of the economy, is it too much to ask that we align ourselves behind a team like the Tampa Bay devil-less Rays that built itself on sound investments and good decision making?

Quit pandering to the already fat cats. It sort of defies logic that the majority of society desires to be Paris Hilton’s new BFF, we prefer fast food that we know is terrrrible for us, and we cheer on teams like the Cowboys, Yankees, Red Sawks, and the LA Galaxy (if you could see me right now, you’d see my tongue in my cheek). I grow weary of organizations that supplement savvy management with reckless checkbooks.

I know we weren’t raised like this. Because most of us were poor growing up, it’s just a fact. And those of us that were poor certainly didn’t root on the rich kids at our schools who tried to buy friends. So what changed? Continue reading

That Guy

Greetings Blaze Nation,

I’m writing you today with a message of enormous import. Our Blazers look GREAT in our minds. The sexiest team by far when we use our imaginations and everyone fulfills their potential without hiccup. Brandon will not only be an all-star again, but probably the MVP of the game. LaMarcus will make good on his attempt to joining the midseason festivities, and also jump from 3rd in the voting to most improved player. Rudy will exhibit DKV Joventut-like domination and likely be the 6th man of the year. Jerryd will eventually see time as the starter as he defers his shoot first mentality and fits like a grandfather cog in Kevin Pritchard’s flawless machine. And most importantly, Gregory Oden will be the Finals MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and average 18 to 20 points per game to boot. Continue reading

Guess who’s back in the MoFo house

Damn, it’s been awhile!

So I took a minute off. I’m back now so everyone rejoice. Clearly my Bruins broke my heart once again in the FF, but you know what, they made 3 straight, and 4 looks real possible heading into 08-09. Enough about the Bruins and college hoops, for now.

How the hell does USC lose to OSU, in Reser, twice in a row? USC has all the talent in the world, are a joy to watch on a big stage, but when the stage ain’t huge, SC don’t show up. Continue reading

Big-L, little-a, Marcus

I feel like this should be an open letter to the rest of the Association.

See, while everyone (including Portland Trailblazer’s hype machinists) is so focused on the continued ascension of BRoy, the debut of Gregor Oden, the arrival of Rudy F. Baby and Jerryd Bayless, I can’t help but feel like that Longhorn alum, Texas native, and 2006 Big 12 Defensive player of the year, LaMarcus Aldridge gets lost in the hustle and bustle. Continue reading
